An Unexpected Expense

Completed a very detailed budget?  Don’t need a contingency fund?  Know all the costs?  Think again.  Search shows renovation projects overrun  on average by around 12%.

This trench, which took me about 2 hours to dig, was one of my unexpected expenses.  The electricity to the old house was an overhead wire from the electricity pole to the house roof.  The Council, as part of their building approval, had set certain criteria and one of them was that the electricity had to go underground.

$2,000 later and nothing to see for my money – the electricity cable was buried.    Given it had at least 7,200 volts going through it maybe it was just as well.
